Oldenburg lock
The Oldenburg lock limits the apex position of the coastal canal to the east. In the underwater, the Hunte , which is navigable from here and influenced by the tide, joins the coastal canal up to the entrance to the Old Port of Oldenburg, which connects the Weser at Elsfleth via the lower Hunte with the Ems, which has been expanded to form the Dortmund-Ems Canal .
The lock , which consists of one chamber, was built from 1922 to 1928. It is 105 meters long and 12 meters wide. The height difference that is overcome with the lock depends on the water level in the Hunte. At low tide it is about 5.40 meters. The lock is fed with water from the coastal channel. Between 3,700 m³ and 7,000 m³ of water are required for a lock (data refer to high and low tide water). The water is diverted into the underwater.
The upper part of the lock has a hinged gate , which was renewed in 1992, and a stem gate , which was renewed in 1997 , in the lower part . Both gates are operated hydraulically.
The lock is operated by the Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsamt Weser-Jade-Nordsee ( Waterways and Shipping Office Bremen until 2019 ), which controls it remotely from the control station of the lock at the Bremen Weser weir.
Barrage in the Hunte
There is a barrage in the Hunte right next to the lock . The barrage was created with the construction of the coastal canal to regulate the water levels of the Hunte, the coastal canal and the Mühlenhunte. A run-of-river power station was added in 1927 , which uses the height difference of a good 5 m at this point. Its output is 0.7 MW . The power plant has been operated by EWE AG since March 2010 .
A fish ladder has been located next to the barrage since autumn 2006 , which allows migratory fish and other living things to overcome the barrage.
