Strut dome
The strut dome is a structural element in vehicle construction and only applies to vehicles with a self-supporting body .
It is a domed to truncated cone-shaped, particularly stiffened bulge in the wheel arch , in the apex of which the bearing for a strut, MacPherson strut or damper strut is located.
The strut dome absorbs static forces in the form of the body weight and supports various driving dynamics forces ( torque during acceleration, suspension, steering) in all directions (in relation to the vehicle's longitudinal axis) in MacPherson struts . It can also serve as an upper pivot point for steering. This construction is widespread in automobile construction.
