Federico Enrique Bruno Christmann

Federico Enrique Bruno Christmann (born December 30, 1898 in La Plata , † April 18, 1986 La Plata) was an Argentine surgeon and professor of the surgical clinic of the University of La Plata.

Federico Enrique Bruno Christmann was the son of a German calligrapher. He graduated from high school at La Plata University (Colegio Nacional de la Universidad de La Plata). He decided to study medicine and entered the medical faculty of the University of Buenos Aires. Here he received his doctorate in medicine in 1924. Then he went on a trip to Europe, where he stayed mainly in Germany and Switzerland. He visited Ferdinand Sauerbruch and other prominent surgeons to learn from them. After a year of apprenticeship and traveling, he returned to La Plata. A new surgical clinic was built here and Christmann became a professor at this clinic. Influenced by his year of apprenticeship in Germany, Christmann succeeded in building one of the most modern surgical schools in Argentina of his time. In 1929 he wrote a textbook "Surgical Technology". This textbook was published several times and had a decisive influence on Argentine surgery.
