Federico Pedrocchi

Federico Pedrocchi (born May 1, 1907 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † January 20, 1945 in Italy ) was an Italian comic book author .

life and work

Pedrocchi was born in Argentina to Italian parents. His parents returned to Italy with him in 1912. Pedrocchi dropped out of university in 1929 when his father died. In 1930 Pedrocchi opened his own advertising studio after previously head of the advertising department of a manufacturing company. With his studio he worked with Corriere dei Piccoli and Domenica del Corriere , among others . His first comic book, I due tamburini , set in colonial times and drawn by Kurt Caesar and published in I tre porcellini , was written in 1935. Subsequently, in collaboration with Cesare Zavattini, he provided the texts for the Science- Fiction series Saturno contro la Terra . Together with the draftsman Walter Molino , Pedrocchi continued the western series Kit Carson designed by Rino Albertarelli . As early as 1937 he devised longer, humorous Donald Duck adventure stories for the Paperino magazine published by Mondadori . From 1939 until he was called up in 1942, he was Artistic Director of the Mondadori comics department. After his discharge from the army at the end of 1943, Pedrocchi became editor-in-chief of the magazine Il Carroccio . He died during a train ride in an air raid by the Royal Air Force .
