Travel limiter
Suspension limiters or suspension limiters are used in cars to prevent the car from touching the ground or the tires from dragging in the wheel arch.
In many cars these are already installed as standard, but they are mainly known among tuning enthusiasts because they are e.g. B. are useful in lowered cars and / or vehicles with large wheels.
Spring travel limiters are clipped onto the piston rod of the shock absorber and thus impair the spring travel .
Function, structure and assembly
Due to the shortened spring travel that is given by the limiters, the shock absorber hits the ground earlier. Accordingly, the vehicle can no longer cushion over the full distance, which prevents various components from dragging on the wheel or the body from touching down when vehicles are lowered.
The spring travel limiters can be mounted on the piston rod through cutouts without removing the shock absorbers, whereby the respective hole size of the limiter must be adapted to the diameter of the piston rod.
High-quality suspension travel limiters have pins on the top, which means that they can be connected to identical elements.
disadvantage
Travel limiters have a direct effect on driving behavior . Since the shock absorber covers a shorter distance through this, a harder damping behavior and a higher load on the body and vehicle occupants are the result.
Over a long period of time, travel limiters can cause damage to the wheel suspension as the dome and shock absorber are not designed for this type of changed load.
High speeds and heavy loading of the car are also disadvantageous, since the vehicle could no longer be fully controlled in dangerous situations due to the changed driving dynamics.
