from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fedor Altherr (* 1896 in Romanshorn ; † 1980 in Zurich ) was a Swiss architect . He lived in Zurzach from 1939 to 1951 and in Uitikon from 1951 .

life and work

Fedor Altherr studied architecture at the Technikum Winterthur. In 1938 he won first prize in the project competition for the district school in Zurzach . From 1950 to 1955 he worked in partnership with the well-known Swiss architect Theo Hotz in Zurich. During this time the district school in Wettingen (1954 to 1957) and the Hotel Astoria in Lucerne (1955 to 1957) were built. Other projects were the new building of what was then the consumer cooperative in Zurzach, the so-called department store, the renovation of the Hotel Ochsen and the extension of the Hotel Rad. In the historical center of Zurzach, the so-called "Flecken", he renovated old buildings, some of them with great difficulty contribute to the preservation of the medieval townscape. In 1964 he realized the current landmark of Zurzach, the tower hotel of the thermal spring, in which - unusual for the time - he placed the reception and the restaurant on the top floor.
