The Feldbahnmuseum Hildesheim - Local industrial history on 600 mm gauge was a private museum for the preservation of light rail vehicles with a gauge of 600 mm in the Lower Saxony city of Hildesheim from 1983 to 2014 . The private collection consisted of 30 locomotives and almost 100 wagons. The Feldbahnmuseum Hildesheim thus had one of the most extensive collections in Germany. It gave an overview of 120 years of light railroad history in Hildesheimer Land.

history

The museum railway was made possible in 1983 by Werner Voß and his son Andreas Voss after they took over the locomotives from the Albert brickworks in Algermissen . Since the museum railway could not be realized in the place of origin Algermissen because the existing route in Algermissen could no longer be used, the museum moved to its new location in Hildesheim in 1984. The exhibition grounds were on Kennedydamm ( B 494 ) under a road bridge on the B 6 between the Kennedydamm-Sachsenring and Kennedydamm-Güldenfeld junctions.

The museum railway could be viewed in action on public travel days. The Feldbahnmuseum was last visited and driven on on August 3, 2014 and September 7, 2014. Thereafter, plans became known to demolish the bridge over the museum and replace it with a wider bridge. Therefore the field railway museum under the bridge had to be removed. In 2015, a new location for the field railway museum was found nearby: the former open-air dog area in Güldenfeld a little further north on Kennedydamm in Hildesheim.

In autumn 2017, the operator, for reasons of age and illness, and his son for professional reasons decided not to move the Railway Museum to the new location, but to sell it in individual pieces.

literature

The Feldbahnmuseum Hildesheim has published the specialist magazine Feldbahn kreuzt! with the subtitle News and Museums from the Feldbahn . The journal appeared twice a year in March and October.
