Feliks Zemdegs
Feliks Zemdegs (born December 20, 1995 in Melbourne , Australia ) is an Australian speed cuber and currently runner-up in the fastest solving of the Rubik's Cube .
Life
Zemdeg's paternal grandparents come from Latvia , and maternal from Lithuania . He grew up in Melbourne and bought his first Speedcube in 2008.
In 2010, Zemdegs was the first world record holder for the fastest solving of the 3 × 3 × 3 Rubik's Cube with a time of 7.03 seconds, set up at Melbourne Cube Day 2010 . He subsequently improved this record six times to a time of 5.66 seconds, which was set at the Melbourne Winter Open 2011 . In 2013 he was replaced as record holder by Mats Valk , who set the then record time of 5.55 seconds at the Zonhoven Open 2013 . On December 11, 2016, Zemdegs beat Mats Valk's previous world record (4.74 seconds) with 4.73 seconds. In January 2018 he tied the then world record holder SeungBeom Cho with a time of 4.59 seconds. Both of them held this record together until Zemdegs achieved a time of 4.22 seconds at Cube for Cambodia 2018 on May 6, 2018 . The record was clearly undercut by Yusheng Du on November 24, 2018 with a time of 3.47. On March 1, 2020, he set a new oceanic record with 4.16 seconds.
Zemdegs currently holds a world record: in normal solving of the 3x3x3 average (average of 5 attempts). He took part in numerous championships, was two-time world champion of the 3 × 3 × 3 cube and achieved a total of 121 world records in eight disciplines. Zemdegs' personal best time for the 3 × 3 × 3 Rubik's Cube is 3.01 seconds according to his own statement, but this was not achieved in a competition and is therefore not officially recognized.
On March 13, 2017, Zemdegs announced that he had created a website with speedcubing tutorials.
