Felix III.
Felix III. (* in Samnium ; † 530 ) was bishop of Rome from 526 until his death .
In another count that recognizes Pope Felix II as the rightful Pope, he appears as Felix IV. Consequently, Felix III. sometimes as “Felix III. (IV.) "Or" Felix IV. (III.) ".
Felix came from Samnium , where he was born the son of a certain Castorius. After the death of Pope John I , who the king of the Ostrogoths , Theodoric had been detained, he was sent to a see is vacant, elected two months on July 12. Theodoric had campaigned for his choice; this will have been one reason why Felix behaved in a friendly manner to the Ostrogoths.
Felix condemned semi-Pelagianism and received confirmation of its position from the Synod of Orange in 529.
Felix tried to designate his own successor - Boniface II . However, this drew a reaction from the Senate, which forbade discussion of the incumbent's successor during his lifetime, as well as the acceptance of such a nomination.
The majority of the clergy voted for Dioskur after Felix's death , while a minority favored Boniface II. The schism was ended by the imminent death of Dioskurs.
Obligatory Catholic Memorial Day is October 12th.
