Felix Schumm (born August 24, 1946 in Göppingen ) is a German lichenologist . His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " Schumm ".

Life

Felix Schumm is the son of Paul Schumm, a specialist in psychiatry and neurology, and his wife Dorothee, geb. Spellmann.

From 1966 to 1972 he studied physics at the University of Stuttgart . His diploma thesis deals with photon emission of recombining excitons with simultaneous collision and excitation of further excitons. From 1972 to 1973 he was a professor of mathematics and physics at the Progymnasium Stuttgart-Freiberg. From 1974 he passed the assessor examination. From 1974 to 1975 he was a research assistant at the University of Hohenheim , Department of Ecophysiology . During this time he taught biophysics (water balance, thermodynamics) and took part in large-scale ecophysiological internships in Yugoslavia. From 1975 he received a full teaching position at the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium in Ludwigsburg. In 1975 he received his doctorate from the University of Hohenheim .

From 1978 to 1982 he was a part-time lecturer in physics at the Stuttgart University of Cooperative Education. In 1979 he was appointed senior teacher and in 1981 director of studies at the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium in Fellbach. From 2005 to 2009 he was on leave from school until he retired in 2009.

Even before he was a student, Schumm dealt with lichens and lichenology. During this time he met Oscar Klement , who then became his mentor .

The collection

Since 1995 Felix Schumm has devoted himself intensively to lichenology, for which only a few working hours were available during his professional life. While traveling he collected lichen for his herbarium in the following countries: England, France, Spain, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Greece, Yugoslavia, Mediterranean islands (Malta, Crete, Cyprus, Samos, Mallorca), Atlantic Islands (Gran Canaria, Gomera, La Palma, Madeira, Azores), Madagascar, Seychelles, La Reunion, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines (Leyte, Cebu, Negros, Mindanao), Indonesia (Bali, Java), Australia, Hawaii, USA (Maine), Peru.
