Franz Costa

Franz Costa ( September 12, 1861 - after October 1941 in Berchtesgaden ) was an opera singer ( tenor ), theater and silent film actor .

Life

Costa began his stage career in 1893 at the Lessing Theater, was engaged at the Adolf Ernst Theater in Berlin in 1894 and in Düsseldorf in 1896. In 1897 he came to Mainz. There he made the transition to opera, worked there as a singer for two years, came to the Hoftheater in Wiesbaden in 1899 and joined the Association of the Grazer Landestheater in 1900, where he made his debut as "Tannhäuser".

Further stations were at the Riga Opera House (1902–1904), the Stuttgart Court Opera (1904–1905) and the Nuremberg City Theater (1905–1910 and 1911–1913).

He then lived in Wiesbaden and Frankfurt am Main and performed as an operetta singer until the mid-1920s. He also acted in some silent films.

He spent his retirement in Berchtesgaden, where he was still registered in October 1941.

Costa was married twice, first with the soprano Sultana Cziuk (1871–1935), then with the contralto Ottilie Fellwock (1877 – after 1913).
