Ottilie Fellwock married Ottilie Costa ( 1877 - after 1913) was an Austrian opera singer ( alto ).

Life

Fellwock came from a noble family, her father was an Austrian consul in Berlin. Already at the age of 14 she performed in a concert in 1891. Against considerable resistance, she began her vocal studies with Pauline Lucca .

When she sang the role of "Ortrud" in a school performance of Lohengrin , Eduard Hanslick , a feared critic, was enthusiastic about her voice. This was followed by an audition for Gustav Mahler , who engaged her at the Vienna Court Opera for the 1898/99 season.

She then worked at the Theater of Graz from 1899 to 1902, from 1902 to 1906 at the Deutsches Theater in Prague, from 1906 to 1908 at the City Theater of Nuremberg and from 1910 to 1914 at the City Theater of Stettin.

Her career seems to end there.

Her roles were the “Marcellina” in Figaro's wedding , the “Adriano” in Rienzi by Richard Wagner, the “Fricka”, the “Erda” and the “Waltraute” in the Nibelungenring, the “Hansel” like the “mother” in Hansel and Gretel , the "Frasquita" in the Corregidor by Hugo Wolf , the "Carmen", the "Siebel" in the Faust by Charles Gounod , the "Giulietta" in Hoffmann's stories , the "Azucena" in the Troubadour and the "Amneris" in Aida .

She was married to the opera singer Franz Costa .
