Elvis Álvarez

Elvis Álvarez (* 2. February 1965 in Medellin , Colombia ; † 16th July 1995 ) was a Colombian boxer in the flyweight .

Professional career

In 1983 he started his professional career successfully. On March 3, 1989, he boxed against Miguel Mercedes for the WBO World Championship and won by a unanimous judge's decision. He kept this belt until the following year.

On March 14, 1991, he competed against Leopard Tamakuma for the world title of the WBA and won by unanimous decision. In his first title defense in June of the same year, he lost this belt to Yong-Kang Kim on points.

Elvis Álvarez was shot dead in the street on July 16, 1995 in Medellín, Colombia.
