The Norrfors rock carvings are on the Umeälven river , between the villages of Norrfors and Sörfors, about 15 kilometers west of Umeå in Västerbotten County in Sweden .

They were discovered by archeology students in 1984. The 55 rock carvings by the hunters and gatherers date from between 3000 and 2000 BC. And mostly depict boats, moose (25) and people. Many moose were shown in the so-called X-ray perspective, which in addition to the contour shows the ribs and a "lifeline" from the mouth to the heart. Similar figures have been found in the Nämforsen rapids in the Ångermanälv river . The location was around 3500 BC. An island in a bay and was previously below sea level. The carvings at Norrfors are one of nine places with petroglyphs in Norrland on or in the water. There are also places with rock carvings painted on almost vertical overhanging rock faces.
