Ferdinand Spindel

Ferdinand Spindel (* 1913 in Essen , North Rhine-Westphalia ; † 1980 in Neuenkirchen near Soltau , Lower Saxony ) was a German artist who worked as a painter , sculptor and object artist, among other things .

life and work

From 1932, Spindel initially trained as a commercial artist with Max Burchartz at the Folkwang School in Essen . In 1947 he began working as a freelance artist and had been a member of the Halfmannshof artists' settlement in Gelsenkirchen from 1963 , of which he became chairman in 1970. In the 1960s he was in close contact with the artists of the ZERO group and discovered foam as a working material. In 1969 he was a founding member of the artist group B1 . He traveled to Paris, Prague, New York and Moscow and exhibited at numerous well-known exhibition venues, including the Kunsthalle Bremen .

Ferdinand Spindel was a member of the German Association of Artists .
