Ferdinandshof Frankfurt (Oder)

The Ferdinandshof is the former brewery of Ferdinand Schindler in Frankfurt (Oder) , built in the middle of the 19th century. The buildings at Gubener Str. 8, 9 and 9a, right on the corner of Ferdinandsberg, belong to the building complex.

history

The Ferdinandshof has an eventful history of use: First a brewery, since 1921 the Siegfried Neumann bed spring factory and finally a spirits factory, which has made constant renovations and extensions necessary.

The Ferdinandshof had been empty since the fall of the Wall and was falling into disrepair. The complex was one of the last not renovated buildings in the city. This is particularly noticeable due to the central location near the Frankfurt train station and the chimney that defines the cityscape. Two years of the “Protection of European Cultural Assets” course at the European University Viadrina have taken on this building.

Todays situation

In 2017 the city of Frankfurt (Oder) signed the contract for the renovation of the Ferdinandshof with an investor from Berlin. Construction began in 2017 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2020. As part of the urban redevelopment program “Renovation, securing and acquisition of buildings that were built before 1949 (old buildings)”, the former residential buildings are being renovated. The funds are provided by the federal government and the state of Brandenburg . With the completion of the renovation, 12 rental apartments will be built here. The funds for the former factory buildings are made available through the federal program “Model project for the sustainable and affordable construction of Vario apartments”. In addition to vario apartments, 74 apartments and commercial spaces for gastronomic use are being built here.
