Ferdy ( Czech Ferda Mravenec ), often Ferdy, the ant is an animated series produced in Czechoslovakia and the United Kingdom in 1984 based on a Czech children's book series about the ant Ferdinand by Ondřej Sekora .

The Ant Ferdy lives with the bug sniffing dog and the house longhorn Dub in a house Käfertal. Other figures are:
- Gwendolin (ladybug) that Ferdy is in love with,
- Horse (grasshopper),
- Oskar (snail),
- Arambula (spider),
- Appetitos (barbecue) and
- Cockchafer family Kunterbunt.
Production and publication
The series was produced by European Cartoon Production and Far Eastern Animation in 1984 and directed by Jerry Hampeys and Ralph Newman. The script by Iva Hercíková and Liane Novotny is based on the stories by Ondřej Sekora. The music was composed by Evzen Illín.
The series has also been translated into English ( Ferdy the ant ) and French ( Ferdy la fourmi ). A German version was first broadcast by Südwest 3 from January 13 to June 23, 1987 . Several repetitions followed on other ARD stations . Other language versions exist in Arabic, Persian, Spanish, Italian and Hungarian.
Entertaining Cartoon Production & Licensing AG has held the rights to the franchise since 2000. In 2002 the English version was released on VHS cassette, and in 2003 the series was released on DVD in the Czech Republic. An update and successive revision (16: 9, HD) is planned for 2011.
