Ondřej Sekora

Ondřej Sekora (born September 25, 1899 in Královo Pole near Brno , † July 4, 1967 in Prague ) was a Czech writer , children's book author , caricaturist , journalist and graphic artist .

Some of his characters - the ant Ferda (Ferda Mravenec), the Pytlík beetle and the ladybird Beruška (Miss Seven Point) - are known to almost everyone in the Czech Republic. They come from his children's books, the first of which Ferda Mravenec was first published in 1933. Further adventures of these characters are in books such as B. Ferda v cizích službách (Ferda in foreign service), Trampoty brouka Pytlíka (The torments of the beetle Pytlík) or Kousky mládence Ferdy Mravence (The pranks of the young Ferda Mravenec). The characters also served as templates for various cartoons.

“I admit to myself that of all the characters I have so far succeeded in Ferda Mravenec. I used a main hero for many pictures and for many different environments. Of course I knew that this would be an ant. Mickey Mouse wears trousers for a change, Ferda will have a polka dot tie. "
