Feriha Öz

Ganime Feriha Öz (* 1933 in Kadıköy ; † April 2, 2020 ) was a Turkish pathologist and professor .

Live and act

Feriha Öz graduated from a girls' school in 1951. She completed her medical studies in 1957 at the University of Istanbul . After studying medicine, she worked as a doctor in the state health center in Akdağmadeni . In 1959 she got a position as a research assistant at the Chair of Pathology at Istanbul University. Öz made her specialist in pathology in 1962 with a thesis on mitral valve stenosis . From 1963 to 1972 she worked as a pathologist at the Cerrahpaşa Surgical Clinic. After 1968 with a thesis on histopathological changes in the kidney by anesthesia with halothane and ether to assistant professor was appointed, she received in 1976 a full professor with a habilitation thesis about changes in lymph nodes in children with accidental thymus - atrophy . She taught at the Chair of Pathology until her retirement in 2000 and was a founding member of the Medical Faculty in Edirne and the Medical Faculty of the University of Haliç in Istanbul.

In 2005, when he was retired, Öz published an anatomical atlas on lesions of the thyroid gland in book form . Scientific articles wrote Öz u. a. for the specialist journals Yeni Tıp Alemi , Türk Tıp Cemiyeti Mecmuası , Cerrahpaşa Tıp Bülteni , Journées Médicales du Proche et du Noyen Orient and Çağdaş Hekim .

On April 2, 2020, Öz died during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection. The incumbent health minister condoled the family, and articles about her death appeared in numerous Turkish daily newspapers.

She was married and had two children.
