Fernando Contreras Castro

Fernando Contreras Castro (born January 4, 1963 , San Ramón, Alajuela Province , Costa Rica ) is a Costa Rican author and literary scholar .

Life

Contreras studied at the University of Costa Rica Philology and won there the MA in Spanish literature. The subject of his master's thesis was El hombre de La Mancha , a revision using Nietzsche's philosophical concept . He did his PhD in France .

Contrera's first novel Única mirando al mar from 1993 was even introduced as school reading in his home country. A second edition took place in 2010. His novel Los Peor is the only work that has so far been published in German. It was awarded the Costa Rican National Prize Aquileo J. Echeverria in the Roman category.

Contreras is considered to be the representative of Costa Rican literature of the generation of disappointment . Today he is Professor of Communication and Linguistics at the Faculty of General Studies at the Universidad de Costa Rica.
