Fernando Soucy

Fernando Soucy (born July 5, 1927 in Montreal , † August 2, 1975 in Repentigny ) was a Canadian singer and fiddle player.

The son of the fiddle player and composer Isidore Soucy initially performed as a piano accompanist with his father. Together with accordionist René Alain they formed the Trio Soucy , which achieved its first success with the recording of the title Les fraises et les framboises . The trio was joined by Eugène, Fernande and Thérèse, Fernando's siblings, and the ensemble was now called La famille Soucy . Fernando wrote and composed most of the songs for the group, including Un homme sans argent , Le bon vin m'endort , Prendre un verre de bière mon minou and Prendre un p'tit coup c'est agréable .

In 1972 Soucy and Fernand Plouffe founded the Catalogne record label . Their first album was Un party ben l'fun avec Pôgne et la famille Soucy . After its success, another seven albums by the Famille Soucy appeared , as well as albums with Thérèse Rioux and René Alain and Fernando Soucy's solo album Les vrais reels, les vrais noms . Soucy's album Les Veillées du bon vieux temps was released on the Dominion label .
