Fernando Torres y Portugal
Fernando Torres y Portugal , Count of Villar don Pardo (* in Jaén , Spain ; † after 1589) was a Spanish politician who served as Viceroy of Peru from 1585 to 1589 .
Torres came from the Spanish nobility and was appointed viceroy of Peru by King Philip II in 1584. In 1585 he took office. During his tenure there was a severe earthquake in 1586 that caused great damage.
He had the port of Callao fortified and renewed the equipment of the Spanish fleet in Peru. Despite these measures, the colony suffered at that time under the raids of the English corsair Thomas Cavendish .
