history

The villa was built in 1896 and 1897 for Princess Louise and her husband John Campbell , Duke of Argyll . As an architect, the Englishman Edwin Lutyens was responsible for the planning. A building from the early 19th century, which was modernized and expanded, served as the basis. In order to set up a hotel and restaurant, one of the things that was necessary was the addition of a grand piano. After the end of the Second Boer War , British soldiers were housed there for convalescence. Ferry Inn burned down during later use by the US Navy. The interior furnishings made of pine and beech have now been restored.
