Festival March (1847)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The festival march is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 49). The work was performed for the first time on August 29, 1847 on the occasion of a church fair in the coffee house of the entrepreneur J. Kwiatkofsky in Vienna.

Remarks

The work is not to be confused with the march of the same name from 1893 ( Opus 452 ). It was premiered at a parish festival together with the now lost Marien-Polka . The sheet music was later lost, which does not necessarily speak in favor of frequent performances. Only a piano reduction was preserved. This also served as the basis for a new arrangement required for the CD recording mentioned below, which was created by Professor Ludwig Babinski . The work is not one of the most successful or well-known creations by his composer.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 31 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
