The Festival in Jarocin (Polish Festiwal w Jarocinie ) was a  music festival held annually from 1980 to 1994 in Poland in the city of Jarocin , in the eastern part of the Greater Poland Voivodeship . Initiator and main organizer was Walter Chełstowski . At the beginning, the event was named Ogólnopolski Przegląd Muzyki Młodej Generacji ( All-Polish Show of Young Generation Music ). Previously found in Jarocin 1970-1979 the youth Wielkopolska rhythms ( Wielkopolskie Rytmy Młodych ) instead, in 1983 the name was Festival of Rock Music ( Festiwal Muzyków Rockowych changed).

Mainly blues, rock, heavy metal and punk rock were played. Around 10,000 young people came to the 2nd Festival in 1981. The participants, bands and organizers were under observation by the Polish security service Służba Bezpieczeństwa . After the end of the People's Republic of Poland , the idea of rebellion was no longer the driving force. In 1993 Philipp Morris became a sponsor and there were riots against the commercialization of the festival. In the following year, too, there were riots; 70 people were injured and property damage occurred. Jarocin's authorities then refused to allow the festival, which ended with it. Later attempts were made to revive it, but these could not build on the successes. The successor festival Jarocin PRL Festiwal has existed since 2000 .
