Siekiera is a punk and cold wave band from the city of Puławy in Poland , which was active from the turn of 1983/84 to 1988.

The band is considered to be one of the pioneers of the punk and new wave movement in Poland, and their album Nowa Aleksandria (named after the former name of Puławy ) is a milestone in Polish independent music. The band name means "ax" in German.

history

Siekiera was founded by Tomasz Adamski (guitar, lyrics, music), Tomasz Budzyński ( vocals ), Dariusz Malinowski ( bass ) and Krzysztof Grela ( drums ). Musically, Siekiera can be classified as a typical punk band in their first line-up, whose music is reminiscent of internationally known role models such as the UK Subs or Exploited . The band first became famous in the spring of 1984 through a concert in the Warsaw student club Remont and through the Polish youth radio Rozgłośnia Harcerska , which broadcasts excerpts from the concert. The band became a Polish punk legend - despite the small size of their work - through their appearance at the punk rock festival in Jarocin that same year .

After conflicts with band leader Tomasz Adamski about the further musical direction of the band, singer Tomasz Budzyński left Siekiera in October 1984 and shortly afterwards became one of the founders of the punk group Armia . Drummer Krzysztof Grela also leaves; Zbigniew Musiński (drums) and Paweł Młynarczyk (keyboard) are added. The band changes their style from punk to cold wave and records the album Nowa Aleksandria in 1986, which has musical similarities with the music of the time by bands like Killing Joke . Many fans of Siekiera's punk music accuse the group of musical treason.

In 1988 the band disbanded. Bandleader Tomasz Adamski then worked as a poet and theater director, Tomasz Budzyński has been the singer of the band Armia since 1984 . Zbigniew Musinski (drums) emigrates to Germany and lives in Nuremberg.
