The fortress S ch wilo ( pronunciation : [ sχvɪlɔ ]; Georgian სხვილო, სხვილოს ციხე ) is a medieval fortress in the Georgian region of Inner Kartlien , in the municipality of Kaspi . It is located four kilometers (as the crow flies) southeast of the village of Mskhlebi, on the summit of a conical mountain, and is a landmark in the agricultural region.

The current fortress was built in the 14th century. The construction of the fortress is linked to the story of the medieval Georgian feudal family Sevdginidze ( Georgian ზევდგინიძე ). A residence of this family clan was located in the fortress. At the turn of the 17th century, the family lost interest in this residence and preferred the place Kwemo Tschala ( Georgian ქვემო ჭალა ). From then on, the Schwilo fortress served as a defense structure to protect the surrounding villages.

The relatively well-preserved complex has a floor area of around 45 × 20 m, with three to four storey walls (around 10 m) it rises above the building site. The wall thickness is three to four meters on the ground. There are two semicircular bastions on the west side and four on the east side, which protrude from the wall front like supporting pillars. The only access was on the southwest side. In the tiny inner courtyard behind the gate, another courtyard wall blocked the passage to the buildings behind. In the north there is the keep as a watchtower, a second tower, but reduced to wall height, is on the south side of the complex. The residential buildings leaning against the defensive wall and a building originally used as a church are located between the two towers.
