In the immediate vicinity of the legionary camp ( intra leugam ; in the vicinity of a Gallic leuga , corresponds to 2.2 km), a multi-phase camp city ( Canabae legionis illius ) was built in the second half of the 1st century . Since the 2nd century at the latest, it has had an urban character. It extended from the equestrian camp on the outskirts of Petronell to the western edge of Bad Deutsch-Altenburg. To the south of Bundesstrasse 9, it extended to the Vienna-Wolfsthal railway line and 100 meters west of the legionary camp. Their area was 2.3 kilometers long and the width varied between 500 and 1000 meters. From the beginning to the middle of the 3rd century its area comprised 120 hectares, making it significantly larger than that of the civil town. The most densely built-up areas were around the legion camp and the amphitheater. The first houses stood along Limesstrasse, Gräberstrasse and the road to the Gerulata fort . Amphitheater I was located on the east side of the camp, in the west a hardly explored central campus and north of it the representative villa of the governor. The houses of the upper class presumably stood in front of the eastern bulge of the camp wall or on the access road to the west gate of the amphitheater. It was inhabited from around the turn of the ages until the end of Roman rule in the 5th century.

The approximately 17.5 hectare legionary camp had an irregular floor plan, adapted to the castle field plateau. The double gates, each flanked by two towers, had a rich architectural façade decoration. In addition to the walls, which were reinforced with numerous interior towers, a double moat protected the legionary fortress. The narrow side (west-east) of the camp was crossed by one of the main streets of the camp, the Via Principalis, the long side (north-south) by the Via Praetoria. To the south, in the center, was the staff building with the camp sanctuary and various administrative and assembly rooms. Adjacent to this was the legion commander's residential building. On the opposite side of Via Principalis were the houses of the staff officers. To the right and left of the headquarters were the barracks of the first cohort, the other cohorts were in barracks that were lined up at the front of the camp against the Danube and at the rear. The centurions were each housed in multi-room head buildings at the ends of the barracks. Other buildings housed a hospital as well as magazines and workshops.
