Fortress Division Stettin (Wehrmacht)

The Fortress Division Stettin was a major unit of the army of the German Wehrmacht in the Second World War in the Vistula Army Group .

Division history

The division was set up on March 22, 1945 in the Pomeranian capital Stettin , Wehrkreis II , to defend the same in the course of the strategy of permanent places and the XXXII. Army Corps subordinated to the 3rd Panzer Army . With the advance of the Red Army on the city, parts of the division fled to the west, where they were later captured by British troops. The remaining parts of the division surrendered to the Red Army on April 26, 1945 and the city of Szczecin was liberated.
