Feuersalamander Gluehwürmchen is a 23.5 meter wide and 1.10 meter high lettering on the Kolping House in Bayreuth , which is attributed to the artist Roland Schön . As art in architecture, the lettering has its third location in the city since its construction in 2008.

The work

Originally, the installation fire salamander fireflies as a 12 meter long and 3 meter high two-line line in colored illuminated letters was part of the exhibition project “PARALLELAKTION” 2008, designed by the artist group Silixen AG . The double lettering could be seen in the old castle in Bayreuth, the seat of the local tax office, in the main courtyard and from Maximilianstrasse not illuminated during the day and illuminated at night. At eye level with the bronze monument of the Bavarian King Maximilian II , the two colorful words placed on top of each other were placed next to the figure. An "anonymous" signed the author.

Formally based on an anonymous message, the individual letters of the lettering have been removed from the former functional context of advertising texts and combined to form a new message, thus alienating them. Each letter more or less clearly suggests an original term or challenges the memory of one. “Anonymous” advertised his work as follows: “Unrestrained defragmentation from the parallel universe of foreign beings.” The work served a “dispute” “which [...] the tax authorities knew how to shine in a completely new light”.

Recording of the work

After the end of the exhibition, the installation, supported by sponsors, found a place in the public space of the city of Bayreuth for another year in December 2008. The installation was changed for the new location at the head building of the central bus stop (ZOH) and as a result Roland Schön, member of the Silixen AG artist group, became known as the creator of the redesign. He now applied the lettering in a single line and swapped the order of the two elements so that the line read firefly fire salamander and extended over 20 meters at a height of one meter. The installation should initially remain at this location until the end of 2009.

In October 2010 the letters on the ZOH were removed. On May 30, 2011 it was announced that the installation was to be built on the roof of the Kolping House. Since mid-July 2011, the lettering Glowworm Fire Salamander can be seen there again.
