The Giessen fire brigade in the Hessian university town of Giessen consists of a professional fire brigade and six volunteer fire brigades . The fire brigade is subordinate to the Office for Fire and Civil Protection of the University City of Giessen. Office and fire brigade have been headed by fire chief Martina Klee since February 1st, 2012 Klee is the first female head of a professional fire brigade in Germany.

The professional fire brigade Gießen was founded in 1914 and consists of:
- three watch departments
- the management of the Giessen fire department
- the preventive fire protection department
Volunteer firefighter
The city's volunteer fire department was founded in 1855. It has its locations in

- Pouring center
- Giessen-Kleinlinden
- Giessen-Lützellinden
- Giessen-Rödgen
- Giessen-Wieseck
- SEG Special Rescue (SEG SR) rescues in heights, depths and tightness
Area of responsibility
The Giessen fire brigade, as a public fire brigade based on the Hessian Fire and Disaster Protection Act, with 70 full-time and over 200 volunteer fire brigade members, is responsible for fire and disaster protection in the city and in the vicinity of Giessen and drives up to 1500 missions a year.
