Darmstadt fire brigade

The Darmstadt fire brigade was founded in 1895. With it, the city of Darmstadt ensures fire protection for around 160,000 residents and an area of 122.24 km². The professional fire brigade (BF) had its guard in Kirchstrasse until it was destroyed in World War II , then, as a temporary measure, in the Bessunger boys' school. In 1954 the current fire station was moved into on Bismarckstrasse. Today the BF Darmstadt has around 160 employees, of which around 110 are on duty in three (four in the control center) guard departments. The BF Darmstadt is supported by the four volunteer fire brigades (FF) from the districts of Arheilgen , Eberstadt , Innenstadt and Wixhausen with a total of around 200 fire fighters.

history

In 1848 a fire-fighting company was founded from members of the Darmstadt gymnastics community. In 1864 the first fire station was moved into on Woogstrasse and in 1883 the Turner community and the fire brigade were separated .

In 1889 a night watch was set up in Kirchstrasse and in 1895 a permanent watch with a guide and four men was established. In 1902 four horses were provided and the premises of the guard building expanded. In 1905 a 24m turntable ladder was purchased, in 1907 the first carbon dioxide gas syringe was added. The first motorized fire engine was used on an Opel chassis in 1912 . In 1916 there was a complete conversion to motor vehicles, with the abandonment of keeping horses ready. In 1930 the German Red Cross took over the ambulance transport . In 1934 the installation of a new fire alarm system began .

In 1939 the fire brigade was renamed the fire police and the number of crews increased to 38 men. For the Kirchstrasse fire station destroyed in the air raid on Darmstadt in September 1944, the Bessunger boys' school was prepared in 1945 as a provisional replacement. After the war, moved in 1954 with a wax thickness of 22 man, the new fire station in the Bismarckstraße 86. 1976/77 an extension (administration building and other vehicle hall) with six parking spaces for large vehicles, office space and the new was Leitfunkstelle Hessen-South built.

In 1993 the construction of a new roll-off container system was started (1 WLF + AB-Umwelt). In 1994, the Fire Protection Office and the Office were civil protection combined. In 1998, the first turntable ladder on a Mercedes-Benz Econic chassis was put into service in Darmstadt . A year later the new control center was set up between the guard building and the administration building.

In 2001 the new vehicle concept with emergency fire engines was implemented. After the temporary structures on the southern boundary had been torn down, work on the “southern structure” began in 2005 and should be completed in 2011. This extension on the security site at Bismarckstrasse 86 will include a material store, a respiratory protection workshop and training course, a classroom, a car workshop, a wash hall and nine parking spaces for vehicles and roll-off containers.

In the last few years two special units have been formed. The measurement and environmental protection group was founded in 2006 and takes on special tasks in GABC situations (" Hazardous goods atomic, biological, chemical") such as taking samples, measuring where dangerous substances are released, and identifying and identifying substances. The fire brigade Darmstadt is working closely with the plant fire department of the company Merck together. In 2007, the height rescue group was also put into service. The members of this special unit are specially trained and equipped for rescues at heights and depths and technical work in this area.

The strength of the guards was reduced from 24 to 22 officers in January 2007 through the implementation of the EU working time regulation (48 hours per week). The watch crew is divided into 20 officers from the respective watch department and a technical operations manager (TE) with his driver. These have a different shift rhythm than the security department. When the fire engine is deployed with the ELW , only 4 officers remain in the station, who manned special or reserve vehicles, depending on the situation. The effectiveness of the fire brigade in large-scale or parallel operations is reduced as a result, so the volunteer fire brigades must be used to a greater extent.

Current train concept

The current vehicle concept has been based since 2001 on the combination of two almost identical rescue vehicles (internal designation HTLF and HLF) with, depending on the application, a turntable ladder (fire service) or a crane truck (rescue service). Other special vehicles and / or roll-off containers can be added if necessary. In the case of fire reports in special objects or the key word “human life in danger”, the technical operations manager (TE) also moves out. The command car 1 (ELW 1) of the platoon leader is called the platoon driver's car (ZFW) in Darmstadt . All vehicles that were procured by the city are traditionally painted in RAL 3003 (ruby red).

Fire engine

In the event of fire reports, firelight, smell of smoke and similar alarm reports, the fire extinguishing train is deployed.

It consists in detail of: Zugführerwagen (ZFW) Auxiliary tank fire-fighting vehicle (HTLF) Turntable ladder (DLK 23-12) Auxiliary fire-fighting vehicle (HLF)

There are a total of 16 emergency services (so-called AGBF fire- fighting train). The second HLF is only 1/3 manned (1 driver and 3 emergency services). The 2 missing emergency services are on the ZFW as detectors and on the DLK as the third man.

Depending on the report (e.g. fire in special objects or human life in danger), the technical operations manager also moves out with a command vehicle (ELW 1). In addition, a corresponding volunteer fire brigade can be alerted directly from the control station in Darmstadt.

Rescue train

In the case of technical assistance (such as a traffic accident with trapped people, etc.), the assistance train moves out. In detail, it consists of: Command vehicle (one driver / technical operations manager), ZFW train driver car (occupation of one driver / one train driver / one detector), auxiliary tank fire-fighting vehicle HTLF 24/20 (1/5), auxiliary fire-fighting vehicle HLF 24/20 (1 / 3), crane truck KW 45 (1/1). In the event of special accidents, e.g. B. with the participation of a truck or dangerous goods, the rescue train is supplemented by a corresponding roll-off container. The rescue train consists of a total of 17 emergency services.

Forest fire engine

The forest fire spreads out when there are messages such as "Burning grass and undergrowth", "Forest fire" or when the garden huts are on fire. In detail, this association consists of the ZFW (1/2) platoon driver's car, the WTLF 24 / 56-5 (1/2) forest fire tank fire- fighting vehicle and the HTLF 24/20 (1/5) emergency tank fire- fighting vehicle .

Environmental protection train

The environmental protection train is deployed in the event of accidents and incidents involving dangerous goods. It should be mentioned here that the water force of the HTLF is manned by two employees from the environmental protection group. These occupy the equipment trolley measurement during an environmental protection train deployment and similar situations. In detail, the environmental protection train consists of: ELW (1/1), train driver's car ZFW (1/2), GW-Mess (1/1), emergency tank fire engine HTLF 24/20 (1/3), emergency fire engine HLF 24/20 (1 / 3), WLF + roll-off container environment (1/1), powder tank pumper PTLF 24 / 50-5 (1/2).

Vehicle fleet

The BF Darmstadt has various vehicles for fire fighting and technical assistance . There are 3 command cars 1 (ELW 1) The train driver's ELW is called Zugführerwagen (ZFW) in Darmstadt. An ELW is kept as a reserve vehicle. There is also a command vehicle 2 (ELW 2) and four rescue vehicles (HLF 24/20) or (HTLF 24/20). The load on the HLF and HTLF is almost the same. In contrast to the emergency tank fire engines, the two emergency fire trucks z. B. a 50 kN winch and a water suction device. The crew is on the HLF 1/3 (1 driver, 1 machinist and 1 attack team ) and on the HTLF 1/5 (1 driver, 1 machinist, attack team and water team ). 1 HLF and 1 HTLF each are in the alarm service. In order to achieve a fairly even load on the vehicles, they are exchanged on a monthly basis.

There are also three turntable ladders DLK 23-12, 1 powder tank fire engine PTLF 24 / 50-5 with 250 kg ABC extinguishing powder and 500 liters foam compound (internal designation: PTLF) and 1 forest fire tank fire engine TLF 24 / 56-5 (internal designation: WTLF ). The forest fire fire truck is a correspondingly designed and modified TLF 24/50. In addition to a larger water tank and more hose material, it has a cable winch that can pull in two directions (100 kN back and 50 kN forward). It is also equipped with a self-protection device in front of the front tires. Otherwise, there are three change loader vehicles with 12 roll-off containers , an equipment cart oil a trolley -Nachschub / light, two trolley-measurement, a small alarm vehicle KLAF , a trolley height rescue, three team transport vehicles (MTF), a workshop trolley, a mobile crane , a telescopic loader , six Car and a rescue and transport boat RTB 2 .
