The telescopic loader , after Baugeräteliste (BGL) Telescopic called spread, but also as a telescopic forklift or telehandler called, is a mobile construction machine which is designed as an equipment carrier. This means that, equipped with different pieces of equipment, it can do different tasks. In addition to the construction industry, the machines are also increasingly used in agriculture , for example for stacking and transporting large-sized bales of fodder and valuables .

technical features

  • Telehandlers are produced with different load capacities and lifting heights.
    • Manitou provides (as of 2020), for example, construction telescopic handlers with capacities ( "lifting force") from 2 to 35 t at
    • the net weight is 1.5 to 2.7 times the load-bearing capacity, a maximum of 69 t
    • the lifting height ranges from 4.4 to 17.5 m, the loading width is 2.5, 3 or 3.5 m, individual types have 2 supports that can be folded down at the sides on the load-side front.
  • Depending on their design, a distinction is made between rigid frame machines , semi- rigid frame machines (the vehicle frame can be hydraulically pivoted and tilted laterally on the front axle) and rotor machines (with a superstructure that can be pivoted without limits).
  • Telehandlers have permanent all-wheel drive with a swinging rear axle for optimum off-road mobility with maximum traction.
  • All-wheel steering with the option of choosing between different operating modes: front-axle steering (for fast road travel), synchronous steering (both axles have the same size, opposite wheel angle for the smallest turning circles ) and crab steering (both steering axles have the same wheel angle, for simultaneous forward and side-to-side or backward steering - and sideways movement). The crab steering is after the English phrase crab steering sometimes crab steering called and is important for maneuvering in confined spaces.
  • Telehandlers are mainly equipped with a hydraulic main drive, which is arranged between the travel axes as an underfloor central unit.
  • A drive gear with two gears (transport and work gear) enables speeds of up to 10 km / h and up to a maximum of 50 km / h. (Manitou MRT 3050)
  • Telescopic lifting arms enable lifting heights of more than 30 m. (Manitou MRT 3050)
  • There are free connections for hydraulically driven equipment on the head of the telescopic lifting arms for quick equipment changes.
  • The driver's cabs are usually designed as permanent workplaces.
  • The loaders are usually equipped with an electronic overload warning device.

Telehandlers are often equipped with large loading forks (also for containers), but can usually swap the load receptacle.

Reach stackers are also equipped with a telescopic arm that can be raised at an angle, but they specialize in handling containers (20, 40, 45-foot) by gripping the corner mounts from above or swap bodies by reaching under from above . At least Liebherr has been building a type (LRS645) with a circular telescopic arm since 2011, when pushed together to form a 50 ° circular sector. Its special advantage is that it can reach a container in the 2nd row in front of one stacked at the same height in the 1st row and it is easier to reach down from a high pier to a deep ship deck.

Vertical mast loaders, even if this mast is telescopic, are called mast loaders (and not telescopic loaders).
