history

The company was founded in 1911 in Cuneo , north-west Italy , and initially focused on the manufacture of forged and steel components. After moving to Cervasca (San Defendente district) due to lack of space , Merlo began producing construction machinery in 1964. Initially, these were three-sided small dumpers and self -loading concrete mixers , until the production of all- terrain forklifts began in 1970 .

In 1982 the company launched the first forklift with telescopic lifting arm, the SM30, a machine with a maximum load capacity of 3,000 kg, a maximum lifting height of 8 meters and a maximum radius of 2.8 meters. Soon the SM50 was added, which could carry 5,000 kg and reached a lifting height of 11 meters and a radius of 3.8 meters. These machines were also offered on the international market.

In 1987 Merlo brought its first Panoramic XS telescopic machine onto the market, which was mainly due to the semi-rigid frame with infinitely adjustable swiveling, central underfloor motor, very low lifting arm main joint, standard quick-change device for changing equipment, three-way variable all-wheel steering, infinitely variable, hydrostatic and permanent All-wheel drive, outriggers and a comfortable large cab, set standards in this area. At the same time, work equipment was developed in the Merlo Group, with the help of which the field of application of the telescopic machines was sustainably expanded.

The company has also been active in Germany since 1989 and exhibited the first articulated roto-telescopic loader with a swiveling superstructure at the Bauma international construction trade fair . In the period that followed, the Panoramic and Roto construction machinery families were further developed and various special machines developed for agriculture and forestry . In 2001 Merlo presented the Multifarmer, a combination of telehandler and tractor. With three-point suspension and power lift at the rear, the telescope concept was awarded a silver medal as an Agritechnica innovation. In 2013 the system tugs MM120MC , MM160MC and MM180MC were presented at Bauma .

In 2014, the manufacturer began converting its production to modular construction. The first step was to modernize the turbofarmers, which are widely used in agriculture, based on a new modular design concept. At bauma 2019, Merlo presented its modular panoramic and roto telescopic loaders, which are popular in the construction industry and with rental companies.

Products

The current telehandler range from Merlo comprises five model series - Kompakt, Panoramic, Turbofarmer, Multifarmer and Roto - with more than 60 different machine types. A range of equipment enables adjustment to various tasks for which special machines are otherwise used. The company's product range also includes a family of lightweight tracked transporters (Cingo).
