It consists of a professional fire brigade and five volunteer fire brigades .

history

On December 7, 1905, the City Council of Rostock ordered the construction of a central fire department depot on Vögenteichplatz in the Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt . The first professional fire station was later located in the central fire department depot , which was completed in 1906. The Rostock professional fire brigade was founded on July 1, 1908 after various predecessor organizations. The first head was fire inspector Albert Wegener, who was subordinate to a fire brigade sergeant, 4 senior fire fighters, 27 fire fighters and 8 drivers. In 1915 the first 15-meter-long fireboat was purchased for the port, which was stationed in the Rostock city port. This boat was in use until the 1940s, when the war ended it was lost. In February 1952, the Solidarity fireboat and, in 1953 and 1954, the unit and the Patriot , two new FLB 32 fireboats in the 18-meter class, were put into service. In 1956 the seaworthy fireboat Helmut Just , which could also be used on the open sea, was put into service and decommissioned in 1982. On December 22nd, 1981 the first fireboat FLB 40-1 for coastal and maritime shipping was put into service in Rostock. At the time, these types of boats were the largest sea-going fire boats in Northern Europe. The FLB 40-2 and 40-3 followed by 1983. The fire-fighting boat FLB 40-3 was stationed in Lütten Klein until 2018 . In the same year it was replaced by Albert Wegener , which was put into service in August 2018. This boat is a converted former sea rescue cruiser of the German Society for Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS) with a closed bridge deck and was baptized in the name of the first fire inspector of the Rostock BF.

Professional fire brigade

The professional fire brigade consists of around 330 active officers in the fire service and is spread over three guards. At the fire station 1 Südstadt in Erich-Schlesinger-Straße 24 there is, among other things, the control center with three employees working in a 12-hour shift system, a respiratory protection workshop, a hose store and a turnout clothing store. Fire station 2 Lütten Klein (See fire station) in Ostseeallee 43 and its fire boat Albert Wegener focus on fighting ship fires . The fire station 3 Überseehafen is located at the fire station 1 and focuses on environmental protection.

Volunteer firefighter

In the districts of Rostock there are five volunteer fire brigades (FF) stationed in six fire stations. The emergency services are alerted via radio signal receivers .
