Fiat A.12 was a water-cooled propeller engine that was developed and produced by the Italian Società Italiana Aviazione and was used in numerous aircraft from the prewar period up to the end of the Second World War .

The water-cooled six-cylinder in- line engine with a displacement of 21.71 liters had an output of 210 to 300  hp , at a maximum speed of 1700 revolutions per minute. The A.12 was a fairly large aircraft engine at the time and its dimensions were more typical of a marine engine . A total of 13,260 units of this type were produced by Fiat between 1916 and 1919.

Versions

  • The first version of the A.12 mass production had a compression ratio of 4.5: 1 and a dry weight of 390 kg, with an output of 210 hp at 1400 rpm at sea level.
  • The second further developed version achieved an output of 300 HP (221 kW) at 1600 rpm through modified valves, increased compression and the use of barrel twin carburetors. Dry weight 440 kg.

Trivia

The engine was also installed in the former world record vehicle and achieved the land speed record in 1924 . The A.12 was also an engine that was installed in Italian armored vehicles during World War I.
