From the 1950s, the license production of jet engines was added, later rocket engines . There was a long cooperation with General Electric for marine engines and gas turbines .
Aeritalia , founded in 1969 by Fiat, Aerfer and Salmoiraghi, took over aircraft construction from Fiat-Aviazione until 1972. At Fiat Aviazione only the engine and turbine construction remained. In the 1970s one participated u. a. on the development and manufacture of the Turbo-Union RB199 for the Tornado .
After a certain autonomy in terms of corporate policy was achieved in the 1980s, in 1989 Fiat engine construction was spun off as Fiat Avio SpA as part of the reorganization of the industrial landscape in Italy .
