Avio Aero , based in Rivalta di Torino near Turin, is an Italian subsidiary of GE Aviation . Avio Aero is primarily active as a supplier of modules and components for aircraft engines and in engine maintenance.

history

Avio Aero is the successor to the aircraft and engine manufacturer Fiat Aviazione , whose history can be traced back to 1908. After the aircraft construction division went to Aeritalia until 1972 , the Fiat engine construction was spun off as Fiat Avio SpA in 1989 . In 1994 Fiat Avio took over the rocket engine manufacturer SNIA-BPD from Colleferro near Rome ; in addition, engines and turbines for aircraft and ships were still manufactured, mostly as part of international collaborations or under license.

The initially independent company Fiat Avio passed in 2003 as Avio SpA into the ownership of Finmeccanica and the American investment group Carlyle Group . In 2006, the Carlyle stake went into the possession of the private equity fund Cinven for 2.57 billion euros . The company's engine and turbine business was sold to General Electric in August 2013 for € 3.3 billion and renamed Avio Aero . By then, General Electric had worked with the Italian company for almost 30 years.

The Avio company emerged from the rocket engine division in Colleferro, and is in the tradition of SNIA-BPD.

Locations

In Rivalta there is one of three main plants next to the company's headquarters; the other two are in Pomigliano d'Arco near Naples and in Brindisi . Smaller locations are in Turin, Cameri , Rome and Bari . Avio Aero has offices in Poland , Brazil and China . Of the over 4,600 employees, around 4,000 are employed in Italy.
