The Fiat G.2 was a passenger aircraft from the Italian manufacturer Fiat Aviazione , which was designed by Giuseppe Gabrielli .
History and construction
The G.2 was a big step for the Fiat group as it was their first cantilever low-wing aircraft. The machine was completely metal-clad except for the fabric-covered oars. The tail wheel landing gear was not retractable, but it was disguised. The aircraft was powered by three Fiat A.60 piston engines, one mounted in the bow and the other two on the wing leading edges. The installation of various other engines would have been possible. The closed passenger cabin offered space for six people. The prototype first flew in 1932. Although the G.2 was a promising design, it could not be mass-produced. The only machine built was initially used by Avio Linee Italiane on the Turin - Milan route, then sold to VARIG and then handed over to the ASA airline, which operated it as a mail plane until 1946 .
