A fibrous nasal papule

A fibrous papule of the nose ( engl. Fibrous papule of the nose ; ICD-O 8724/0) is a benign tissue formation ( neoplasia ), which is typically at the tip of the nose forms or on a nose. Locations of the fibrous papules outside the nasal area are rarer. In such cases one speaks of a fibrous face pile .

Description and diagnosis

The fibrous nasal papule is a hamartoma (a benign tumor-like tissue malformation), which usually occurs primarily in adults, regardless of age. However, cases have also been described in children aged four and over. The size of the firm and sharply demarcated papule (nodule) usually varies between 1 and 5 mm in diameter. It is skin-colored to slightly reddish and smooth on the surface. Fibrous nasal papules mainly form on the ala, on the nasal alar furrow or on the tip of the nose and are symptom-free . They occur individually (solitary) and remain stationary. The size can also remain constant over many years.

The fibrin-stabilizing factor XIIIa , a blood coagulation factor , plays an important role in the formation of a fibrous nasal papule. It is believed that a fibrous nasal papule is a variant of angiofibroma caused by dermal dendrocytes . These cells are positive for factor XIIIa. Occasionally they also contain multinuclear giant cells. Histopathologically, the fibrous nasal papule can be divided into different variants. There are clear-cell fibrous, inflammatory -fibrous, epithelial-fibrous, pigmented fibrous and pleiomorphic-fibrous variants.

Under certain circumstances, a biopsy may be necessary to differentiate a basalioma .

therapy

Fibrous nasal papules can be surgically excised through a flat excision . The papule at the level of the papillary dermis is removed with a tangential cut. An alternative is removal with a carbon dioxide laser .
