Fila Brazillia

Fila Brazillia is a British duo from Kingston upon Hull , consisting of Steve Cobby and David McSherry, which can be largely assigned to the genre of electronic music . Their music is often categorized as downtempo , but Fila Brazillia as an experimental band mix different styles such as ambient , funk , trip-hop , dub or techno .

Cobby and McSherry began recording music under the name Fila Brazillia in 1990. Initially under contract with Pork Recordings in her hometown of Hull for a long time , Fila Brazillia founded her own label Twentythree Records in 1999 .

Their band name, which often causes confusion about their style, they adapted from the Fila Brasileiro dog breed , whose keeping was banned in Great Britain. The titles of their publications are often characterized by humorous puns. They dedicated their album Maim That Tune to the late US comedian Bill Hicks . Fila Brazillia also produced various remixes , including by artists such as Radiohead and Sven Väth .

After the release of the best-of album Retrospective in 2006, the two apparently decided to end the long-running Fila Brazillia project, as can be read on their MySpace page. However, there was no definitive or official explanation for this.

Both Steve Cobby and David McSherry are also active as DJs and in various side projects (e.g. The Solid Doctor , Mandrillus Sphynx or The Cutler ).
