Filharmonia Łódzka im. Artura Rubinsteina ( Łódź Philharmonic Artur Rubinstein ) is a philharmonic in the Polish city of Łódź , founded in 1915 as the Łódź Symphony Orchestra (since 1945 - State Philharmonic , since 1984 - Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic , since 1999 - Łódź Philharmonic ).
The Ignacy Vogl concert hall in Ulica Dzielna 18 (today Ulica Narutowicza 20 ) was built in the years 1883–1887 according to the project of the architect Otto Gehlig . The long-standing seat of the Łódź Philharmonic was demolished in 2000 and a new building was built in the same place and opened in 2004.
Nowadays the Philharmonic is striving for the status of a national philharmonic , which could result in higher grants and the possibility of more frequent concerts, and as a result frequent visits by the most outstanding artists in the world. In summer the Philharmonic organizes the summer festival "Kolory Polski" ( Colors of Poland ), which combines music as well as city and regional tours. The festival first took place in 1999.
