Filial church Maria am Bichl

The Roman Catholic branch church Maria am Bichl is located on a hill on the northern edge of the Lurnfeld west of the Rotte Feicht (municipality of Lendorf ). It was first mentioned in a document in 1390. The current, late Gothic church building dates from the end of the 15th century.

structure

The nave of the church has three bays and is closed off by a two-bay, drawn-in choir with a 3/8 end. In the northern corner of the choir is the church tower with bi-porous windows as sound openings and an onion helmet. The aisle attached to the north of the nave has two bays. The choir and the nave are illuminated by lancet windows (with new glazing). On the south side there is a stepped buttress (between the choir and nave) and a side portal with a profiled pointed arch. The north side portal is walled up. The main entrance with a vestibule in the west has a profiled pointed arch portal with a straight lintel.

Interior

The choir and nave are vaulted by a ribbed vault over semicircular templates and a capital ring. The vault of the choir rests on fluted wall pillars and has figural keystones. In the entrance yoke there is a brick gallery above a three-part, ogival pillar arch. The gallery is vaulted under a star rib vault with sculpted keystones. In the vaulted areas there is a late Gothic painting with flowers, stars and rosettes. The parapet shows a fish bubble tracery. In the middle is a painted angel's head in a quadruple frame and scrollwork, including the dates 1630 and 1523. On the north side of the nave, two high, ogival openings lead into the two-bay side aisle with a ribbed vault in the east bay. An iron-studded door leads through a profiled ogival arch into the sacristy.

Facility

The high altar in the form of a strict columned pedicle dates from the second quarter of the 17th century. In the openwork rectangular field there is a statue of Our Lady, in the top a picture of the Holy Family, in the cartouches pictorial representations of the Pentecost miracle, the ascension of Christ, the risen Christ and the coronation of Mary.

The Lenten veil from the first half of the 16th century is in the Diocesan Museum in Klagenfurt .
