Branch church Obergottesfeld
The Obergottesfeld branch church in the south of the Sachsenburg community in Carinthia is dedicated to St. Rupert of Salzburg . It is subordinate to the parish Sachsenburg in the deanery Greifenburg .
The church, located on the edge of the forest above Obergottesfeld, was first mentioned in a document in 1166. The small Romanesque building with a retracted semicircular apse has a wooden roof turret with a baroque onion helmet on the west side on the wooden clapboard roof . On both sides of the nave there are two arched windows that were enlarged during a restoration in 1866. The window in the apse still has its original Romanesque shape.
The nave has a flat ceiling. In the west there is a wooden gallery. The wall paintings from the beginning of the 15th century, uncovered in 1943, show Christ in the mandorla, evangelistic symbols and tendrils in the apse, a protective cloak Madonna on the north wall of the nave and full-length apostles in painted box rooms. The Gothic winged altar dates from 1505. Today there is a modern plaster statue of St. Ruprecht in the shrine. There are reliefs on the inside of the wing , the outside is painted.
