Filiz Koçali

Filiz Koçali (born January 22, 1958 in İstanbul , Turkey ) is a Turkish politician, feminist and journalist. She was general secretary of the Sosyalist Demokrasi Partisi (SDP) until 2009 , but then joined the Barış ve Demokrasi Partisi (BDP).

In 1976 she took part in the student movement. Interrupting her training, she worked as a worker in the Altın Yıldız and in the Arıkol factory in order to take part in the struggles of the labor movement. After the coup on September 12, 1980, she was active in the human rights association in Istanbul.

As a journalist she works for the magazines Kadınca and Kim as well as Radikal and BİA. Active in the women's movement since 1987, in 1995 she was one of the founders of the feminist magazine Pazartesi , of which she has since become editor-in-chief. In February 2000, Filiz Koçali and other editors parted ways with the magazine.

She was involved in the founding of both the ÖDP and the SDP , which separated from the ÖDP in 2002, and was represented on the board of both parties. From May 2004 to 2009 she was Secretary General of the SDP.

She writes a column in the newspaper Özgür Gündem .
