Fillan is a former municipality (municipality) and a place on the Norwegian island of Hitra , Fylke Sør-Trøndelag with 744 inhabitants in 2013. Fillan is the administrative center of the municipality of Hitra and was an independent municipality until 1877. Older settlement centers of the place are Alt-Fillan and Fillaunet. The main sources of income for the population were fishing. Fillaunet was already settled in the Stone Age. However, the present-day town emerged outside of these places. The administrative center of the new municipality of Hitra between the towns of Fillan and Oldervika, Skaget, Lervågen has been built here since the 1960s. In addition, there were further infrastructure facilities for the towns of Sandstad, Hestvika, Forsnes, Kvenvær, Strøm, the surrounding islands, such as doctors, shopping centers, fire brigades, etc. Other businesses followed. The Kystmuseum has a cinema. Domestic and foreign tourists make up a considerable part of life in summer.
