Film Makers' Cinematheque

The Film-Makers 'Cinemateque was a regular event of the Film-makers' Cooperative in New York City between 1964 and 1970 . At different locations, mostly cinemas , were experimental films by US and European avant-garde videographers shown.

For the first time, the Cinematheque showed films by Jack Smith , Kenneth Anger , Jonas Mekas , Andy Warhol and many other underground filmmakers who would not have had a forum for their works elsewhere. It has been a pioneering institution for the development of the global counterculture .
