Boulder from Riant Mont
The Riant Mont boulder is a block of granite that was transported to its current location by an Alpine glacier during the Ice Age . The boulder is located northeast of Vesancy in the Ain department , near the border with Switzerland and the Jura department in France .
The block, about 9.0 meters long and 7.5 meters wide, is about 6.0 meters high. The stone has a bowl and prehistoric grooves .
The boulder has been under protection since 1909 and entered the list of the sites naturels classés de l'Ain as "Bloc erratique de Riant Mont" .
