Fiq (also Fiiq or Fik ) is a city in the Somali region of Ethiopia . It is the capital of the Fiq Zone , located in the territory of Somaliland from the communities of Ogadeni- Darod .

According to the Central Statistics Agency of Ethiopia for 2005 Fiq had 12,991 inhabitants. In 1997, 99.03% of the 8,656 residents were Somali.

In the Ogaden War Fiq was early by the Somali army and the WSLF taken. After the fall of Jijiga , it served as a starting point for attacks against Harar from the south, which were to pinch this important city along with attacks from the north. Despite unexpectedly strong resistance from Somali, Ethiopian troops with Cuban support retook Fiq by March 8, 1979.

Since 2007, the conflict between the separatist Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) and the Ethiopian army has intensified in the Somali region , Fiq is one of the areas affected. In September 2007 the authorities denied access to the city of the Belgian section of Doctors Without Borders , which wanted to bring medicines to Fiq.
