First Love ( dt. First Love ) is the first Japanese-language studio album of the Japanese singer Hikaru Utada . The album was released on March 10, 1999 in Japan and is the best-selling album in Japanese music history. It sold more than 7.65 million copies, according to Oricon , the Recording Industry Association of Japan added that 8.53 million copies were in circulation. It is also the only album to be awarded 32 × platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) . This corresponds to eight million units sold in Japan.
It sold more than two million copies in its first week and was at the top of the Oricon charts for six weeks. In addition, First Love is the most successful album in Asian music history with 10 million units sold worldwide.
A 15th anniversary version of the album was released through Universal Music Japan in March 2014.
